My name is Richard Casselle and I live in Hoddesdon, Herts., England.
I am married with three adult children and five grandchildren.
I was born in London's East End in 1951 and lived with my parents and two younger sisters in a local council flat on the Isle of Dogs. I left the local grammar school at 16 with modest qualifications and started clerical work at a foreign bank in 1967. Over the years, I took opportunities in this much-expanded industry to develop my skills and assume more responsibility. After senior roles in Information Technology, Procurement, Real Estate and Corporate Services, I retired at the end of 2010 as a Managing Director.
I believe that societies are a product of the behaviour of all their citizens, and that each single one of us has a duty to value and nurture the society we live in. It's not someone else's job, it's ours. Good societies take a lot of time and effort to build and they are fragile and easily destroyed. Right now, I think that too few of us appreciate and value our privileges, and that we will lose them because of that disregard.
I did well out of globalisation and technology but I feel bad for the millions of my compatriots who were left behind by it. This is my proposal to try and restore some team spirit back to the UK.
